BAN KI-MOON SAYS SL SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THE RECOMMENDATIONS MADE BY THE DARUSMAN REPORT

A meeting took place between UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and Sri Lanka’s permanent representative to the UN Dr. Palitha Kohona.

During the daily press briefing at the UN Headquarters, UN Secretary General’s spokesperson Martin Neserky said the Secretary General had reiterated two points during this meeting.

He has pointed out that it would be good for Sri Lanka to seriously consider the recommendations made in the report of the panel of experts, particularly with regard to the accountability process.

The second point the UN Secretary General had made was to remind the Sri Lankan authorities of their responsibility with regard tO the safety of UN staff and also of UN premises.

Meanwhile Neserky had noted that the meeting between the Secretary General and Dr. Kohona was not a formal response of the Sri Lankan Government.

While the UN is still awaiting a formal response, at the daily press briefing yesterday, the UN Secretary General’s spokesperson said that they would be happy to receive such a response.
