Dilshan, Sangakkara flay India’s cricket bowlers

50 overs Sri Lanka 320 for 4 (Dilshan 160*, Sangakkara 105) v India

Tillakaratne Dilshan equalled his best one-day score of 160 and Kumar Sangakkara also smashed a ton in Hobart Tuesday as Sri Lanka pushed India to the brink of elimination from the tri-series.

Dilshan took just 165 balls to reach his total, battering 11 fours and three sixes, while Sangakkara’s 105 off 87 balls — with eight fours and two sixes — lifted Sri Lanka to 320 for four off their 50 overs at the Bellerive Oval.

India will need to score 321 in 40 overs at around eight runs an over to claim the bonus point they need to keep alive their remote hopes of making this weekend’s best-of-three finals series against Australia.

Dilshan equalled his highest ODI score, also set against India in 2009, with his 11th on-day ton and shared a 200-run second wicket stand with Sangakkara to leave India the daunting target.

Sangakkara flayed the Indian attack with his 13th ODI century and has now scored 10,152 runs in the limited overs game at 37.88.

He was out bowled in the 44th over after taking a swipe at Praveen Kumar.

Skipper Mahela Jayawardene hit 22 off 33 balls, while Thisara Perera (3) and Angelo Mathews (14) went cheaply as a ruthless Sri Lanka tried to put the game beyond the reach of the World Cup champions.

Zaheer Khan (1-61), Kumar (1-64) and Ravindra Jadeja (1-43) shared the wickets among India’s bowlers.

India’s innings may be batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar’s final chance on this Australian tour to claim his elusive 100th international century after going 14 Test and ODI innings without scoring a ton.
