Drive with one hand and lose your licence

Driving

The Private Transport Minister told Parliament yesterday that steps would be taken to cancel the driving licences of those who drive with one hand on the steering.

Minister C. B. Ratnayake said driving with one hand on the steering was an office under motor traffic laws, but a large number of drivers violated this law, as most of them use mobile phones while driving. Mr. Ratnayake said the police have been advised to strictly enforce these laws.

He said the same would apply to those who ride motor bikes without their helmets. β€œSome wear helmets only when they ride past a policeman,” he said.
