The Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake at a meeting today (19) with the political party secretaries and representatives said, as the State media are not abiding by his orders, and undue pressures are being brought on the competent authority appointed by him, he had relieved the competent authority of his duties with effect from midnight yesterday (18).
The Elections Commissioner said that he is in utter disgust as the State media had totally disregarded the competent authority.
The Commissioner had stated that after this Presidential election he will be relinquishing his duties, and he has taken this decision irrespective of who agrees or disagrees. In future any body can hold elections or withhold from elections, he added. He declared that there will not be an election conducted after this under him as Commissioner.
When UNP Gen. Secretary complained about the collection of IDs of the samurdhi recipients, the Commissioner replied he cannot take measures for the protection of a handful. However he will announce his measures on the 25th. This is because, if he announces earlier, counter measures could be taken by the unscrupulous parties, he pinpointed.
Attorney at Law Nalin Ladduhetti who appeared on behalf of Presidential candidate Lal Perera said, the Commissioner’s decision not to step into the office after the elections is good, but it is better if he does not step into it even before elections because he is the most corrupt Elections commissioner ever to have come into that position.
The representatives and Secretaries told the Commissioner that he should tell all his grievances not to them but openly to the public. If you are unable to carry on it is your duty to expose that and those who are violating the laws, they further pointed out.

No one is genius.Election Commissioner(EC) has to perform his duties within his purview. He cannot request powers the way he wants. It will be decided only people representative through the parliament. His remarks at his speech on the presidential nomination day at his office is bias towards opposition. This was noticed earlier too. Why he wants to control only state media ? What about private electronic media ? They too violate the election laws. What actions EC has taken. None. EC cannot have two yard sticks for similar matter. He can have his personal opinion but it cannot come out as EC’s official voice. He know very well who destroyed the peaceful election system. It was Jayawardhana, premadasa and Chandrika. I have witnessed how election was rigged/robed during the previous elections. From 1970 up to 2000 ( except 1994 elections under president wijetunga ) I have worked as Senior Presiding officer, Assistant returning officer and counting officer under every elections. Unfortunately we don’t have well educated and intelligent officers who can see very far. How long we can suffer ?.
Lionel is talking bull shit. The commissioner of Elections has no politics. He wanted to do his duty without been biased to any political party. But when the so called “State is trying to dictates terms to him” naturally he feels that he will not be able to conduct a just and fair elections in Sri Lanka, as the so called Government is trying to bully him to side their way and give rulings in the Government’s favour. which he as the commissioner of Elections can not do. so he feels disgusted of conducting free and fair elections in Sri Lanka. so he is now trying to conduct this Presidential Elections in a just and fair and free manner to all the votes in Sri Lanka, and complete his job and go home and let any one conduct the General Elections. One must not forget that the commissioner has the power to declare an elction null and void if there is mass scale vote rigging.

If a candidate does not follow the in structions given by the commissioner(in this case even a supreme court order), The election commissioner should announce the violations and make the elcetion of that candidate invalid even if he wins. There is no point in making comments to party representatives and try to claim his innocence. Whether you resign or not is not a concern to Sri Lankan public at all. But after beign in your position and failing to do your duty towards the Sl public is a grave concern. Even at this stage you could correct it by postponing the election if possible by atleast two days and allow other canidates also to use state media for their campaign. If that directive is not followed now itself announce the invalidity of election of that candidate irrespective of the final result. Commissioner act like a man with a backbone.

What happend on 26th was just a disaster. Sri Lanka is in need of people with some common sense. Idiots who voted for so called “leader” with closed eyes will take time to realise the consequences. It will be just too late.. Brainless pigs they are.
