Court orders health report on former SIS chief Suresh Sallay

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (September 2) ordered the Director of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka to submit a report on the current health condition of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay.

The report should state whether Sallay requires continued inpatient treatment at the hospital or whether he is fit to be discharged.

Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued the order after considering a request made by State Counsel Oswald Perera, who appeared on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Sallay is currently being held under a third 90-day detention order in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

He had previously been detained under two separate 90-day detention orders following his arrest. A third detention order was issued on August 25, 2026, allowing authorities to hold and question him for a further 90 days.

The former intelligence chief was arrested by the CID in Peliyagoda on February 25, 2026, on suspicion of aiding and abetting the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks carried out on April 21, 2019.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Special Trial-at-Bar has fixed September 22, 2026, to deliver its verdict in the case filed against 24 defendants over the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
