‘Konda Ranji’ arrested by CID after Dubai deportation

Ranjith Kumara, alias “Konda Ranji,” who was deported from Dubai to Sri Lanka, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.
The Police Media Spokesman’s Office said the suspected underworld gang member was taken into CID custody after arriving in Sri Lanka today (September 9).
Konda Ranji was arrested in Dubai on January 9, 2026, while allegedly attempting to flee to Italy.
Dubai security authorities had also arrested his wife and children along with him. However, his wife and children were later released.
He is reportedly wanted by Sri Lanka Police in connection with the murder of the coordinating secretary of former Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
Konda Ranji is also believed to have been involved in several organised killings.
His deportation and return to Sri Lanka were arranged through coordination between Sri Lankan security authorities and Dubai security authorities.
Meanwhile, reports state that Konda Ranji, who has also been identified as Ranjith Kumar, holds a United Arab Emirates Golden Visa valid for 10 years.

Ranjith Kumara, alias “Konda Ranji,” has been handed over to the Western Province North Crime Division in Peliyagoda for further investigations.
He was taken into CID custody after arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport at around 7:50 AM today (September 9).
Police are conducting further investigations into his alleged involvement in organised criminal activities and several other criminal cases.
