Sri Lanka Police announce traffic plan for Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit

Sri Lanka Police have announced special traffic restrictions in Colombo from September 8 to 10, 2026 during the official visit of Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Singh is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka from September 8 to 10, 2026, and the Colombo Traffic Division has arranged a special traffic plan for the routes he is expected to use.

Police said traffic may be restricted when necessary along these routes during the specified times.

On September 8 at around 1:30 PM, traffic restrictions are expected along the route from Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake to the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.

The route will run along the Katunayake–Colombo Expressway through the Colombo Port premises, the N.S.A. Roundabout and onward to the Taj Samudra Hotel.

Later on September 8, between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, Singh is scheduled to travel from the Taj Samudra Hotel to India House.

The route will pass through Galle Face Roundabout, Kollupitiya Junction, Liberty Roundabout, Pittala Junction, Red Cross Junction, Library Roundabout, Glass House, Nanda Motors and Independence Roundabout.

The return journey to the hotel will be through J.O.C. Junction, Flower Road, Liberty Roundabout, Michael Junction and Galle Face Roundabout.

On September 9, between 9:50 AM and 11:25 AM, the visiting Indian Defence Minister is scheduled to travel from the Taj Samudra Hotel to the Presidential Secretariat and return.

The journey will be along Galle Centre Road, with the return trip using the same route.

Several other visits are scheduled from 2:00 PM on September 9.

At 2:00 PM, Singh is due to travel from the Taj Samudra Hotel to the Indian Peace Keeping Force Memorial at the Ape Gama premises in Battaramulla.

The route will pass Galle Face Roundabout, Galle Road, Kollupitiya Junction, Dharmapala Mawatha, Liberty Roundabout and Pittala Junction.

The convoy will then turn left at Red Cross Junction onto Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha and continue through Nelum Pokuna Roundabout, Horton Place, Horton–Kinsey Junction, D.S. Junction, Model Farm Junction, Castle Street, Ayurveda Junction and Sri Jayewardenepura Mawatha before reaching Ape Gama.

Between 2:45 PM and 3:45 PM, Singh is scheduled to travel to the Ministry of Defence through Japan Friendship Road Junction, Kiyanham Junction, Three Bridges Junction, Maga Neguma Junction, Arukpitiya Junction and Akuregoda Roundabout.

Between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM, he is expected to travel to the Parliament premises through Akuregoda Roundabout, Arukpitiya Junction, Maga Neguma Junction, Three Bridges Junction, Kiyanham Junction and Jayanthipura Junction.

Between 4:35 PM and 5:00 PM, Singh is scheduled to travel to Gangaramaya Temple.

The route will pass through Jayanthipura Junction, Polduwa Junction, Electricity Board Junction, Buthgamuwa Cross Road Junction, Cashew Corporation Junction, Welikada Junction, Bandaranaikepura Junction, Ayurveda Junction, Model Farm Junction, D.S. Senanayake Junction, Horton Roundabout, Library Junction, Flower Road Junction and Pittala Junction before reaching the Sri James Peiris Mawatha–Jinarathana Mawatha Junction.

At around 5:30 PM, he is scheduled to return to the Taj Samudra Hotel through the Sri James Peiris Mawatha–Jinarathana Mawatha Junction, Sri James Peiris Mawatha–Perahera Mawatha Junction, Perahera Mawatha–Rotunda Roundabout, Aliya Nawana Roundabout and Galle Face Roundabout.

On September 9, between 7:00 PM and 7:10 PM, Singh is also scheduled to travel from the Taj Samudra Hotel to the Colombo Port premises.

The route will pass the Galle Face Centre Road–Baladaksha Mawatha Cross Road Junction, Galle Face Centre Road–Baladaksha Road Junction, N.S.A. Roundabout and Colombo Port Entrance Gate A01.

The return journey to the hotel will use the same route.

On September 10, between 9:00 AM and 9:10 AM, Singh is scheduled to travel from the Taj Samudra Hotel to the helipad at the Colombo Port premises before travelling to Nuwara Eliya.

The route will again pass through the Galle Face Centre Road–Baladaksha Mawatha Cross Road Junction, Galle Face Centre Road–Baladaksha Road Junction, N.S.A. Roundabout and Colombo Port Entrance Gate A01, with the same route to be used for the return journey.

Sri Lanka Police said traffic may be restricted intermittently depending on the situation along the routes used by the visiting dignitary between September 8 and 10.

Police have requested members of the public and drivers to be aware of the temporary traffic arrangements and plan their journeys accordingly.
