Sri Lanka provides USD 1 Million in flood relief aid to Nepal

Sri Lanka has provided USD 1 million in humanitarian assistance to Nepal to support relief and recovery efforts following the deadly Bhote Koshi River floods on August 26, 2026.

The floods caused significant loss of life and widespread damage in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other districts of Nepal.

The assistance was provided in line with a commitment made by the Government of Sri Lanka under the direction of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal Ruwanthi Delpitiya handed over the USD 1 million financial contribution today (September 9) to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu.

During the meeting, Ambassador Delpitiya expressed Sri Lanka’s deep sympathy and solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal. She also extended condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the floods and landslides.

The financial assistance is intended to support Nepal’s ongoing humanitarian, relief and recovery operations and help communities affected by the disaster.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu said the contribution also reflects the longstanding friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Sri Lanka said it remains committed to supporting Nepal in times of need and strengthening relations between the two countries.

The Government of Sri Lanka will also continue to engage with the Government of Nepal and explore further appropriate ways to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
