Former Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando found dead in Bambalapitiya apartment

Former Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando, has been found dead in a suspected suicide by hanging at an apartment complex in Bambalapitiya, Sri Lanka Police said.
He was 57 years old at the time of his death.
Fernando contested under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and was elected Mayor of Hambantota in 2014.
In 2018, he was elected Mayor of the Hambantota Municipal Council for a second term with the support of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
Police have commenced investigations into his death.
