Former SLC President Shammi Silva summoned by Illegal Assets Investigation Division

Former Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva and former SLC Secretary Chryshantha Kapuwatte were summoned before the Illegal Assets Investigation Division today (September 2) as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to officials, the two former SLC office-bearers were called to respond to a questionnaire containing 36 points relating to matters under investigation.

Silva and Kapuwatte stepped down from their positions at Sri Lanka Cricket on April 29, 2026 along with the other office-bearers and members of the SLC Executive Committee.

Following the resignations, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports temporarily took over the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket under the powers vested in the Sports Minister by the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973.

At the time, the Ministry said the move was aimed at addressing issues within Sri Lanka Cricket and introducing structural reforms.

Silva had served as President of Sri Lanka Cricket since 2019 and remained in the position for nearly seven years before his resignation.

The former SLC administration had faced several allegations and growing controversy over cricket administration and governance before the Executive Committee stepped down.
