Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the Sri Lankan government could consider further reducing fuel prices next month, while assuring that relief would be provided to the public at the earliest possible opportunity.
Speaking at the Cabinet decisions media briefing held at the Department of Government Information yesterday (September 1), the Minister said the government is managing the current situation with the aim of reducing fuel prices.
However, he said it is not possible to reduce the prices of all types of fuel, including kerosene, petrol and diesel, at the same time.
Dr. Jayatissa said prices of goods and services worldwide have increased due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
He added that higher shipping costs and the cancellation of orders have also contributed to the increase in fuel prices.
The Minister further said the existing QR-based fuel distribution programme will continue.
