Sri Lanka’s export earnings top USD 10 Billion in first seven months of 2026

Sri Lanka’s export earnings from goods and services reached USD 10.49 billion during the first seven months of 2026, up 5.5% compared with the same period last year, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena said.
In a Facebook post published on August 31, 2026 the Deputy Minister said Sri Lanka earned a total of USD 10,487.8 million from goods and services exports between January and July 2026.
According to the figures shared by Dr. Gunasena, goods exports during the period amounted to USD 8,188.32 million, while services exports reached USD 2,299.48 million.
Goods exports recorded a 5.05% increase compared with the corresponding period in 2025, while services exports grew by 7.02%.
The Deputy Minister also said Sri Lanka earned USD 1,637.26 million from goods and services exports in July alone.
He highlighted the increase in exports despite the conflict situation in the Middle East and described the figures as another sign of Sri Lanka’s continuing economic recovery.
Dr. Gunasena referred to the severe economic crisis faced by Sri Lanka in 2022, when the country experienced a shortage of foreign currency, import restrictions and a major economic downturn.
He said the latest export figures indicate that the country is once again strengthening its ability to earn foreign exchange through international markets.
The Deputy Minister said rising exports, growth in the services sector and stronger foreign exchange earnings were signs of economic progress, adding that recovery from an economic crisis should be measured through actual economic results.
