Suresh Sallay detained for further 90 days over Easter attacks probe

Former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay has been ordered to be detained and questioned for a further 90 days in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

Sallay had already been detained for 90 days following his arrest. A fresh detention order has now been issued allowing authorities to hold and question him for an additional 90 days.

The former intelligence chief was arrested in Peliyagoda on February 25, 2026, on suspicion of aiding and abetting the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks carried out on April 21, 2019.

Since his arrest, he has been held in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Meanwhile, the Colombo Special Trial-at-Bar yesterday (August 24) fixed September 22, 2026, to deliver its verdict in the case filed against 24 defendants over the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
