World Bank discusses Colombo Fort tourism zone and support for Sri Lanka tourism

A discussion on developing Colombo Fort as a tourism zone with World Bank loan assistance and promoting Sri Lanka’s tourism industry was held today (August 24) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.

The meeting was held between Chief of Staff to the President Prabath Chandrakeerthi and a World Bank delegation led by World Bank Country Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives Gevorg Sargsyan.

The discussion focused on matters raised during a previous meeting chaired by Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on developing Colombo Fort as a tourism zone while preserving its historic heritage.

World Bank representatives also expressed their readiness to support the promotion of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and assist the country in achieving its targets in the agribusiness, ports and logistics, and energy sectors.

Attention was also given to the World Bank’s potential contribution to the Colombo Fort tourism development project, the promotion of nature-based tourism, and the further development of tourism in Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern provinces.

World Bank Senior Operations Officer for Sri Lanka and Maldives Stephan Massing and World Bank Senior Operations Officer Asela Dissanayake also participated in the discussion.
