Mahil Senaratne arrested by CIABOC

Former Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation, Mahil Senaratne, was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) today (August 18) over alleged corruption linked to the construction and renovation of fish sales outlets across Sri Lanka.
According to CIABOC, the allegations relate to work carried out between 2010 and 2012, when Senaratne served as Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation.
Investigators allege that the prescribed procurement process was not followed when fish sales outlets were constructed and renovated across the country.
Instead, approval was allegedly granted directly to two selected institutions to carry out the construction and renovation work. Officials were also allegedly pressured to arrange payments to the two institutions.
CIABOC said Senaratne was arrested on charges of committing the offence of corruption through these actions.
Nambukara Halambage Mahil Priyadarshi Senaratne was arrested by CIABOC investigating officers at around 9:05 AM today.
Mahil Senaratne is the brother of former Minister Rajitha Senaratne.
