Three killed in separate attacks in Tangalle, Anuradhapura and Galle

Three people were killed in separate incidents reported in Tangalle, Anuradhapura and Galle on August 28, 2026, with police arresting suspects in two of the cases.

In Tangalle, police launched an investigation after a 35-year-old man died following an assault with a wooden pole in the Mahagoda area on the night of August 28.

Police said the victim, a resident of Mahagoda, had suffered serious injuries and was admitted to Tangalle Hospital, where he later died.

Initial investigations have revealed that the assault took place after an argument between the victim and his brother escalated.

A 28-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing, while Tangalle Police are continuing investigations.

Meanwhile, Anuradhapura Police are investigating the killing of a 60-year-old woman who was attacked with a sharp weapon in the Korakahawawewa tank reservation area on the morning of August 28.

The victim was a resident of Ulukkulama.

According to police investigations, a dispute involving the woman and her husband had escalated before the suspect attacked her with a sharp weapon.

The suspect later sustained self-inflicted injuries and was admitted to Anuradhapura Hospital for treatment. Anuradhapura Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

In a separate incident in Galle, a 24-year-old man died after being injured in a sharp-weapon attack during a clash between two groups in the Galwala area on the night of August 28.

The victim, a resident of the Galle area, was admitted to Galle Hospital with injuries but later died.

Police investigations have revealed that the clash followed a dispute between the two groups linked to a previous grudge.

Two other people injured during the clash were also admitted to Galle Hospital.

Two suspects, aged 19 and 29 and residents of the Walawwatta area, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Galle Police are conducting further investigations.
