Vasudeva Nanayakkara’s life story ‘Rathuwevi Mihimadala’ launched in Colombo

The book “Rathuwevi Mihimadala,” based on the life story of Democratic Left Front leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara, was launched in Colombo on August 28, 2026, with the participation of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

The book launch was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Amarasuriya described Vasudeva Nanayakkara as a notable figure in Sri Lankan politics, particularly within the country’s left-wing political movement.

She said several strong personalities had emerged from left-wing politics and that the influence of the left had also contributed to bringing the country to its present position.

The Prime Minister said there had been political matters on which she and Nanayakkara agreed, as well as areas where they held different views.

However, she said there was respect for the service Nanayakkara had rendered to left-wing politics.

Recalling her entry into Parliament in 2020, Amarasuriya said Nanayakkara was also serving as a Member of Parliament at the time and that they had sat in the same row.

She said they had discussed several important and interesting moments from his political career and expressed the belief that some of those experiences may also have been included in the book.

Members of the Maha Sangha attended the event along with Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara, who is the son of one of Vasudeva Nanayakkara’s brothers.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Speakers Karu Jayasuriya and Chamal Rajapaksa, party supporters, family members and friends were also present at the launch.
