TID arrests man over alleged false LTTE training camp claim

A 46-year-old man was arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) of Sri Lanka Police for allegedly spreading false and unverified information claiming that an LTTE training camp was operating in the Pallai Forest Reserve.
Sri Lanka Police said the suspect was arrested on August 18, 2026, after allegedly spreading the information through a social media video and a media briefing.
The alleged claim referred to an LTTE training camp being operated in the Pallai Forest Reserve within the Akkarayankulam Police Division.
The suspect is a resident of Bellanwila, Boralesgamuwa.
He is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (August 19).
Police said legal action is expected to be taken against him under the Penal Code of Sri Lanka and the Police Ordinance.
