Two killed as unrest erupts at Kuruwita Prison

Unrest at the Kuruwita Prison broke out again this morning (August 7), with inmates reportedly damaging the prison hospital before tear gas was used to bring the situation under control.
A prison spokesperson said the unrest had initially started last night (August 6) and was later brought under control.
However, another unrest situation developed among a group of inmates this morning.
During the incident, a group of inmates is reported to have caused damage to the prison hospital.
Tear gas was used to control the situation.
Meanwhile, unrest also broke out among a group of inmates at the Magazine Prison in Colombo last night.
Police, the Police Riot Control Unit and the Police Special Task Force (STF) were immediately called in to assist prison authorities.
The situation at the Magazine Prison was brought under control by this morning.
