Social activist Piyath Nikeshala arrested

Social activist Piyath Nikeshala was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this evening (June 26).
He was arrested for live broadcasting the incident of setting fire to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence by protesters on July 9, 2022, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.
According to Police, activist Piyath Nikeshala had been summoned to the CID this morning to record a statement regarding the said incident and he was arrested after recording the statement, will be produced before court today.
