Suranjith Wewita appointed new Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority

Suranjith Wewita has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Buddika Hewawasam.

Wewita also serves as a member of the Presidential Task Force and has more than 20 years of experience across various areas of the banking sector.

He has also worked in several other fields, including as a licensed tourist guide lecturer.

In 2013, Wewita was recognised as the Best Dairy-Based Value-Added Products Entrepreneur in the Central Province.

He is an alumnus of St. Mary’s College, Kegalle.

The appointment follows the resignation of former SLTDA Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam yesterday (August 17).

Hewawasam resigned citing personal and professional reasons and informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of his decision in writing.
