‘Samitpura Chathu’ brought back from Oman, taken to CCD under tight security

Kankanamage Dimuthu Chathuranga Perera, alias “Samitpura Chathu,” who was arrested in Oman and brought back to Sri Lanka early today (August 18), has been taken to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) for further investigations.

The 38-year-old suspect, also known as “Modara Chathu,” is described as a member of an organised crime gang and was arrested in Oman by a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Perera, a resident of Samitpura in Modara, Colombo 15, had allegedly fled Sri Lanka for Oman on March 22, 2025, using a forged passport.

He is also a suspect in the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa and is wanted for investigations into several other crimes committed in Sri Lanka.

The suspect was brought from Muscat, Oman, to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake early today.

He was later taken to the Colombo Crimes Division under tight security for further investigations.
