Hefty fines for six traffic violations

The fines for six traffic violations including drunk driving will be increased to Rs.25,000, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva says.
The Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association, Gemunu Wijeratne, said they also agreed to this following a meeting held with Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Ravi Karunanayake on Monday.
Earlier, Private bus operators threatened to strike urging to withdraw the proposal to increase the minimum fine for traffic offences to Rs 2,500.
Accordingly, a Rs.25,000 fine would be imposed on the following traffic violations.
- Drunk driving
- Driving without vehicle insurance
- Driving without valid licence
- Overtaking from the left side
- Speeding
- Driving illegally at a railway crossing

Driving recklessly on the road also should be fine with the maximum and ban the driving license for 10 years.
None of above reasons are good enough to curb private bus drivers bad driving habits.
Govt should make sure to introduce metro city bus service, this will help to reduce private bus mafia.

So, driving while using the phone is less dangerous? You are incapable of learning something from at least watching what is happening elsewhere in the world and what incidents have led to hefty fines and ban on drivers using mobile phones while driving. There is even a ban coming on using a ear piece and microphone attached to the mobile phone (that at least free both hands to keep control of the vehicle), because it take the drivers mind of the road and cause serious accidents.
