Namal Rajapaksa remanded until September 23 in Airbus-linked USD 2 Million case

Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa was today (September 16) ordered to be remanded until September 23, 2026.
The case involves the alleged misappropriation of around USD 2 million in connection with the purchase of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court issued the order after Rajapaksa was produced before the court as a suspect in the investigation.
The court also ordered that the decision on Rajapaksa’s bail application be delivered on September 23.
Rajapaksa, who was already in remand custody, was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the case.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued the order after considering submissions made by Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, who appeared on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is conducting the investigation.
The court also considered submissions made by President’s Counsel Anil Silva and other lawyers appearing for Rajapaksa.
