No economic sanctions on Sri Lanka – GL

Economic sanctions cannot be imposed on Sri Lanka through the resolution that was adopted at the United Nations Human Rights Council, External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris said today.
He added that such sanctions could only be imposed through a resolution at the UN Security Council. Peiris stated this at a press briefing held in Colombo to inform the media on the 19th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
UN Special Envoy of Sri Lanka, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe also participated in the briefing.

With exchange rate at 135 to the dollar there is no need for sanctions. If the US wants to scew the nut a bit they may consider wheat aid in which case the honarable minister and his acolytes will have to work without pay and probably will leg to work or bus driven by buffalo
