Sri Lanka manufactures first amphibious vessel for export to Europe

Sri Lanka has manufactured a high-tech amphibious vessel capable of operating both on land and at sea for export to Europe for the first time in the country’s history.

The vessel, manufactured by Ocean Voyager International, was unveiled at an event held at the Koggala Free Trade Zone on September 10, 2026.

Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti, who attended the event, said the achievement marks the beginning of a new era for Sri Lanka’s marine manufacturing industry.

In a Facebook post, the Minister said the Government’s priority is to turn the long-discussed goal of developing a domestic manufacturing economy into practical results.

He said Sri Lanka’s location along some of the world’s major shipping routes gives the country strong potential to develop its boat and shipbuilding industry.

According to the Minister, the sector has been identified as one of the key industries capable of generating a significant amount of foreign exchange for Sri Lanka within a short period.

He said the Government will provide the necessary facilities and full support to develop Sri Lanka into a regional hub for marine manufacturing, with the contribution of local engineers and workers.

Chairman of the Sea Leisure Yachting Group (SLYG) Pierre Pringiers, members of the company’s management and officials of the Board of Investment (BOI) also attended the event.
