Two children killed in Dehiwala grenade attack

Two boys aged 11 and 17 have died and their father was seriously injured after an unidentified person threw a hand grenade at a house in Dehiwala early today (September 11, 2026).
The attack took place at a house in the Sirisangabo Mawatha area of Dehiwala.
Police said the 55-year-old father and his two sons were seriously injured in the explosion and were admitted to Kalubowila Hospital.
The two boys later died while receiving treatment. They were residents of the Dehiwala area.
Their bodies have been placed at the mortuary of Kalubowila Hospital.
Police have not yet identified the motive for the attack or the suspects involved.
Dehiwala Police have launched further investigations to identify and arrest those responsible.
