Three brothels raided; 26 prostitutes arrested

Three brothels were raided and 26 alleged prostitutes were arrested in Maradana police area by the Western Province Police Crime Division yesterday, police said.

One brothel was raided at Vajiragnana Mawatha and eight alleged prostitutes were arrested. Two persons were also arrested for running the brothel.

Police revealed that the suspects were aged between 21 and 31 and were from Dondra, Hatton, Rakwana, Avissawella, Kandapola, Ratmalana and Warakapola.

Meanwhile, another brothel was raided at the Maradana Technical Junction and 13 women aged between 26 and 44 were arrested. They were from Kalubowila, Kaduwela, Maradana, Medawachchiya, Nuwara Eliya, Keselwatta, Talawakelle, Borella, Batagoda, Minuwangoda and Ratmalana for allegedly engaging in prostitution, and two persons who were running it were also arrested.

Another brothel was raided at the Panchikawatta area and five alleged prostitutes aged between 25 and 45 were arrested. They were from Nuwara Eliya, Grandpass, Peliyagoda and Avissawella. A suspect from Talawakelle was arrested for running the brothel.

All the suspects are produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today.
