Train tickets to be made available free of charge for retirees

Retired persons will be able to obtain train tickets free of charge by submitting their National Identity Cards (NICs) to the railway stations.
This scheme will be in effect starting from today (19) following the inauguration that is scheduled to be held at the Fort Railway Station.
The event will take place under the patronage of Transport Service Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
This scheme is jointly led by the Sri Lanka Railways and the Department of Pensions.

What about war heroes?
What about relatives of missing persons since insurgency in 1970?
All should get free train and bus travel and food tokens.
They saved our NATION and they are entitled to it.
It should be like senior citizens above 60 to be having half rate or a special rate.
Country like Sri Lanka is not fully developed, such things at this stage still not necessary.
More over for 60 plus people, its hard to getting to trains. Platform and train deck has a huge gap. Things like those should be done without doing such at this point.
