Armed robber shot dead by police in Minuwangoda

A person was killed by police fire while attempting to rob a group of school children in the Minuwangoda area. The victim along with three others had attempted to rob a gold chain from a school child at gun point when the police intervened and a shootout took place.
Four persons had attempted to rob a gold chain from a group of school children today (January 30) at around 5.30am when the robbers were attacked by the students.
During the incident one of the robbers had brandished a gun following which one of the children had assaulted him with a stone.
Police arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and the suspect had opened fire at the police. The suspect was shot dead by the police during the exchange, police stated.
