Delivering a lengthy statement in Parliament with regard to the allegations leveled against him, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake announced that he is resigning from his ministerial portfolio.

The Cabinet granted the approval to increase the minimum fine for traffic offences to Rs. 25,000 today.

Following a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat, Foreign Minister Karunanayake is likely to quit his portfolio shortly, according to sources.

Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake Saturday denied he was under pressure from President Maithripala Sirisena to resign following his testimony before the commission investigating the controversial bond auctions.
