Eric Meyer sworn in as next U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka

Eric Meyer has been officially sworn in as the next United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka at a ceremony held at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka said the swearing-in ceremony was officiated by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

“On behalf of the entire Embassy team, we warmly congratulate him! We look forward to working under his leadership to deepen the partnership between the United States and Sri Lanka, advancing our shared interests and priorities,” the Embassy said in a post on X dated August 13, 2026.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) also congratulated Ambassador-designate Meyer and thanked Landau for officiating the ceremony.

The Bureau said Meyer is a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service with extensive experience in South and Central Asian affairs and wished him success in Colombo.

Meyer served as the Senior Bureau Official for the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs from January to August 2025. He later served as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Mission to Norway.

Meyer was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Ambassador to Sri Lanka in May 2026.
