Gotabaya Rajapaksa ordered to give evidence in Lalith, Kugan case

The Jaffna Magistrate’s Court has ordered former Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to give evidence online on September 29, 2026 in the case over the alleged abduction and disappearance of Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan.
Rajapaksa has been ordered to appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on that day and give evidence online to the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court.
The order was issued when the case was taken up today (August 7) before Jaffna Chief Magistrate S. Lenin Kumar.
The case relates to the alleged abduction and disappearance of Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan in the Avarangal area of Jaffna on December 10, 2011.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa was serving as Sri Lanka’s Defence Secretary at the time of the incident.
