Kelaniya PS Chairman faces arrest

Chairman of the Kelaniya Pradehiya Sabha, Prasanna Ranaweera would soon be arrested over an alleged assault of a woman, an officer at the Peliyagoda police said.
A woman named Vineetha Edirisinghe, had lodged a complaint with the Peliyagoda police that Ranaweera and another assaulted her at the Pradeshiya Sabha building.
She was admitted to the Kiribathgoda hospital and later transferred to the Ragama hospital.
Another member of the Pradeshiya Sabha, Milroy Perera said that the complainant had fabricated the story to implicate Ranaweera.
“The complaint was lodged with the sole intention of bringing disrepute to the two Pradeshiya Sabha members and to see that they are in trouble,” Perera said.
He said that a protest would be organised expressing displeasure against political victimization of PS members.
Another protest would be organised by the supporters of the woman. The police claimed that the victim was the sister of a Co-Ordinating Secretary of Minister Mervyn Silva.

When a complaint is made to the police, anybody can protest anywhere peacefully. That is a democratic right at least in the book. But the police must investigate the complain to the full regardless of whether they are PS members or judges and found to have done wrong, must prosecute them.
