Long wait for villagers of Akmeemana as impure water trickles for a few hours
Reports have surfaced about a number of villages in the Akmeemana area which receive water for only three hours daily.
Residents of the Bogawatta area in Akmeemana, Galle which is home to around 130 families have received pipe-borne water. However, they only receive water for three hours daily – from 4.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. The water they receive is not suitable for consumption.
The water that is obtained from the Gin Ganga in Galle is purified at the Wakwella main purification plant and is distributed to the Akmeemana, Ahangama, Unawatuna and Habaraduwa areas.
Villagers charge that the water that is supplied is not properly purified. Chairman, Alahudeen Ansar stated that the water problem will be resolved within a week.
