Man arrested at Mattala Airport

A businessman returning from Thailand was arrested with some gems and jewellery at the Mattala International Airport by Customs Officials today (June 11).
Customs officials stated that the total value of the jewellery has not been estimated yet while investigations continue.
This marks the first such arrest at Sri Lankas second international airport.

He must be very proud to be registered himself being the first arrest at Sri Lanka’s second international airport.
This is a national shame. The Mattala Rajapaksa international Airport which was conceived and brought into life by the rajapaksa leadership is a hallowed ground.
Carrying illegal goods into the country through the MRIA should be amde an offence that demands summary trial and punishment. The businessman’s interests and ventures should be promptly taken over by the State and managed to welfare of the population.
