Parliament has no right to get the 18th Amendment to the Constitution passed in Parliament, said United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe while marching with protestors towards Parliament from Siri Kotha in Kotte.
Meanwhile, our correspondent says the protestors have been stopped at Bangalawa Junction in Kotte after protestors burnt an effigy with six faces and several arms and a protestor had thrown a burning piece of jute cloth towards the watching policemen.
A constable’s uniform had caught fire due to the burning gunny bag, but had been extinguished. This incident had caused a near fisticuff between the police and the protestors. However the intervention of DIG Daya Samaraweera had prevented the affair going out of hand.
However, the situation is reported to be tense in the area.

The UNP is being decisive in suspending the cross-over MP’s. They should sack these fellows who get votes on the UNP ticket and then prostitute themselves. The UNP should sack these MP’s on disciplinary grounds whatever the consequences are. Discipline is most important. If The UNP can demonstrate discipline, I will support them.
