Port View Residencies opens in Colombo with 1,000 housing units

The newly constructed Port View Residencies apartment complex in Grandpass, Colombo 14, with 1,000 housing units, was officially opened today (September 15, 2026) to provide housing facilities for Colombo’s urban population.

Title deeds and house keys were officially handed over to beneficiaries during a ceremony held under the patronage of Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake.

Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara and several other invited guests also participated in the event.

The 15-storey apartment complex, located at Stadiumgama in Grandpass, was constructed under the Support to Colombo Urban Regeneration Project (SCURP), implemented by the Urban Development Authority in line with the development plans of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.

A total of Rs. 9,866 million has been spent on the project, with financial assistance provided through a loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

The complex consists of 1,000 housing units, each covering 500 square feet, together with a range of common facilities for residents.

These facilities include a health centre, community hall, day-care centre, police post, Grama Niladhari office, fire-fighting unit, supermarket, children’s park and an area for handball.

A wider infrastructure development programme is also being carried out around the housing scheme to improve public facilities in the area.

The programme includes improvements to the local road network and canal system, the construction of a new community hall and upgrades to the existing playground.

National People’s Power Colombo District Member of Parliament Dr. Najith Indika, Colombo Mayor Vraie Cally Balthazaar, government officials, housing beneficiaries and a large number of their family members also attended the opening ceremony.
