Rs. 320 Million worth of Kush cannabis found abandoned at BIA

Bandaranaike International Airport in Sri Lanka

Airport Police Narcotics Bureau officers have seized Kush cannabis worth around Rs. 320 million that was found abandoned near baggage carousel No. 06 at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

The drugs were packed in 60 airtight packets and placed inside two pieces of luggage.

According to reports, the luggage had been brought into Sri Lanka by a passenger who arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-405 on September 14, 2026.

The Police Narcotics Bureau suspects that the passenger may have abandoned the luggage and fled due to fear of being arrested at the airport.

A special investigation has been launched to identify the passenger believed to have brought the drugs into the country.

The seized stock of Kush cannabis is due to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today (September 15).
