Sri Lanka launches Rs. 2.5 Billion income-generating development projects nationwide

A series of income-generating development projects worth Rs. 2.5 billion will be launched across Sri Lanka from today (August 14) under the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

The Ministry said the programme is aimed at strengthening local economies and improving social conditions in communities across the country.

The projects will be carried out under the national “Punarudaye Purawara” programme.

The first programmes are scheduled to be launched today in Madurankuliya in Puttalam and Agunukolapelessa, under the patronage of the Minister and Deputy Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

More than 100 projects covering several sectors are expected to be implemented under the income-generating development programme.

They will include fitness centres, shopping complexes, concrete production facilities, drinking water projects, agricultural development projects, paddy drying centres, tourist bungalows, holiday resorts and vehicle service centres, as well as other development projects.
