Sri Lanka Railways appoints 100 new Engine Driver Assistants

Sri Lanka Railways has appointed 100 new Grade III Railway Engine Driver Assistants as part of a national programme to improve the efficiency and quality of railway services.
Appointment letters were presented to the new recruits on September 14, 2026, at the Railway Auditorium of the Sri Lanka Railways Headquarters in Maradana, with the participation of Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara.
The recruitment forms part of a wider programme to develop the human and physical resources of the Department of Railways and provide a more efficient and reliable service to passengers.
According to the Department, around 1,500 employees have been recruited to various positions during 2026 to strengthen the workforce needed to maintain railway services in a proper and uninterrupted manner.
Sri Lanka Railways has also planned further recruitment in 2027 for vacant posts, including Station Masters, Railway Guards and Technical Officers.
The recruitments are expected to be carried out through approved competitive examinations.
