Technical Officer in Alayadivembu PS arrested over Rs. 40,000 bribe

A Grade I Technical Officer attached to the Alayadivembu Pradeshiya Sabha has been arrested for allegedly accepting Rs. 40,000 in bribes linked to two construction contracts.

The suspect, identified as Thambiappa Arulalantham, was arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) at around 1:55 PM on August 10, 2026, at the complainant’s business premises.

According to the allegations, the suspect demanded and accepted Rs. 20,000 for each of two contracts to provide recommendations required for the release of retention money.

One contract involved the construction of a drainage system at a public playground belonging to the Alayadivembu Pradeshiya Sabha.

The second contract was related to the construction of a shop in Akkaraipattu town under the Ampara District Department of Rural Industries.

The suspect is also accused of requesting Rs. 100,000 from the complainant as a loan and obtaining a cheque valued at Rs. 100,000 for that amount.

The arrested suspect is due to be produced before the Akkaraipattu Magistrate’s Court.
