Two policemen killed in clash
Two policemen were killed and another admitted to hospital in a critical condition after they were injured following a shooting incident when they were chasing a group of gangsters who robbed a pawn shop opposite Warakapola Police station.
The pawn shop employees had sought police assistance when the seven member gang robbed their shop.
A police car chased the gang in a van up to Ambepussa near Kosekelle forest.
Exchange of fire between Police and the gangsters resulted in the deaths of two police officers on the spot. A Police Constable was admitted to Kegalle Teaching Hospital in a critical condition.
A special contingent of police officers from Alawwa, Warakapola, Kegalle, Ambepussa police stations jointly with the Ambepussa army camp launched an operation in search of the gang who are believed to have entered the forest.
