UNP candidate Kuttiarachchi remanded
Uva Provincial Council election candidate and UNP Monaragala district organizer, Tissa Kuttiarachchi has been remanded by the Monaragala Magistrate’s Court till 12 September.
The candidate was remanded over his alleged involvement in an assaulting incident in Monaragala town, on 3 September.
The Monaragala police launched an investigation, on this regard, following a complaint lodged by another UNP candidate, Sampath Jayasuriya.
It was reported that Kuttiarachchi and his supporters have assaulted the son of Sampath Jayasuriya near a state bank in Monaragala town.
Jayasuriya’s son, Tharindu Jayasuriya, a pilot by profession, who sustained stab wounds following the incident was rushed to the Monaragala Base hospital. This incident was the most severe intra party conflict reported during the Uva PC polls, thus far.
