Western forces behind Mangala’s decision – Dr. Bandula
Former Minister Mangala Samaraweera who is quitting politics must be doing so under the instructions of Western powers that have backed him up for a long time, Higher Education, Technology, Innovation and Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said.
Dr. Gunawardena made these observations at a press briefing held in Kandy. He called on the Anu Nayake of the Malwatte Chapter Most Ven. Niyangoda Sri Vijithasiri Thera prior to the press conference.
According to Dr Gunawardena, if Mangala Samaraweera contested in the General Election from Matara district he would lose his seat. That would mark the defeat of those foreign powers too, Gunawardena explained.
Thus, Dr. Gunawardena said that the said foreign powers had advised Samaraweera against contesting. Dr. Gunawardena also pointed out that Samaraweera is not just an isolated politician but a person backed by numerous Western forces. Dr. Gunawardena also said that Mangala Samaraweera is very well aware of the massive loss that his party is going to suffer. Hence, he has decided to retire from active politics.
Dr. Gunawardena also pointed out that it was Samaraweera who betrayed the country by lodging complaints at the UN Human Rights Commission, together with the USA.

It is the same old politics. Blaming and criticising the former government until the end of the term.
Yes, there is no way Mangala gonna win Matara electorate. He is immensely unpopular among Sinhala Buddhist voters. In my opinion, this is a tactical move so that he can come from national list. The other factor is, his buddy Handunattithi (JVP) is counting on Mangala’s block votes in Matara. There is a photo Managala and Madam Chandrika going viral in social media. It was Managala and Chandrika master minded the defection of Sirisena from MR government in 2015. I am sure these two are cooking some thing again. However, ‘Regime-change’ funds are not coming this time around!
Thank You for the excellent analysis, Mr Amarakoon,
IF Chandrika is manipulating Mangala’s entry to Parliament via the National List, it must be the UNP National List.
Chandrika cannot influence the SLFP but she has lots of influence over RW.
Knowing RW, he will readily forgive Mangala for his defection to the Balavegaya and take him on board in the UNP National List.
How good is my view point?
