Sri Lanka to cancel four Airbus aircraft

Sri Lanka’s prime minister on Tuesday said that he ordered the national carrier to cancel four Airbus aircraft it has already ordered.
“We have ordered the SriLankan Airlines not to go ahead with the deal of the four Airbuses which have not started manufacture,” Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told reporters.

Good move. The airline cannot raise its head with the aquisation of these aircraft. It would have been even better if the entire Fleet of A350 is cancelled, but contratual obligations and heavy penalties could have prevented such a move by the government. The entire previous board and the senior management of the airline who supported to order the said aircraft fleet should be punished. Ultimately the poor citizens of Sri Lanka will have to bear the cost by way of paying direct or indirect taxes.
