Burka and other face covering banned

Covering the face to avoid identification of one’s self has been banned by President Maithripala Sirisena under Emergency Regulations.
Accordingly, wearing of the traditional Muslim female garb, Burqa, and other garments which cover the face of Muslim females will be banned with effect from tomorrow (29).
This measure has been taken to ensure public safety, stated the President’s Media Division.
