Caroline Jurie acquitted in Pushpika De Silva crown removal case

Former Mrs. World Caroline Jurie
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (September 14, 2026) acquitted former Mrs. World Caroline Jurie and the late model Chula Padmendra in the case over the removal of Pushpika De Silva’s crown.
Delivering the ruling after a lengthy trial, the Chief Magistrate said the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.
The court was also informed that Padmendra had passed away.
The case arose from an incident during the Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo on April 4, 2021, where Pushpika De Silva was crowned the winner.
Following the incident, De Silva lodged a complaint with the Cinnamon Gardens Police, alleging that the forcible removal of her crown had caused injuries.
The complaint also included allegations of criminal intimidation.
Cinnamon Gardens Police investigated the incident and filed the case against Jurie and Padmendra.
