State of Emergency: HRCSL criticises Government decision

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has questioned the declaration of a countrywide State of Emergency in response to a planned protest campaign yesterday (03) against the failure on the part of the government to address the continuing shortage of essential items, including food, medicine and fuel.












People barred from public places during curfew hours

Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued an Extraordinary Gazette prohibiting anyone from being on any public road, railway, public park, public recreation ground or other public ground or seashore in such areas with effect from 6.00 pm on April 02 to 6.00 am of April 04.





BASL calls President to revoke state of emergency

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) said they were gravely concerned by the declaration of a state of emergency claiming that it was not the answer to the present situation in the country, including the spate of public protests which have occurred.
