CID Director Shani Abeysekara promoted to DIG rank

CID Director Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shani Abeysekara has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, effective retrospectively from August 25, 2020.
The promotion was approved by the National Police Commission, which decided to elevate Abeysekara to the DIG rank under the relevant promotion process.
Abeysekara currently serves as the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
During his police career, he has been involved in overseeing several high-profile criminal investigations.
